Airbnb TV Heights in Vacation Rentals Roasted on Reddit

The next time you decide to rent your home out on Airbnb—or any other rental share platform, for that matter—make sure to check your TV placement beforehand, lest you want to get absolutely roasted on one dedicated Reddit page.

Dubbed r/TVTooHigh, the subreddit in question counts roughly 200,000 members, who are all extremely dedicated to rating and judging your TV setup. Mind you, it has nothing to do with the TV’s surroundings, so you can stop worrying about favoring your entertainment center’s practical efficiency over its questionable taste. The subreddit only focuses on one thing: whether your TV is placed way too high for optimal TV watching.

Throughout the sub, scattered among posts asking for real feedback on their TV setup, many Airbnbs fall victim—and quite frankly, for a good reason.

“Airbnb house, TV is hung halfway up a two-story high fireplace, nearly level with the upper floor,” reads the description to one photo picturing an unnaturally high-placed TV, the sole sight of which can hurt your neck. In the comments, some users think it’s a financial ploy. “It’s an Airbnb, they don’t want [it] to be comfortable or livable,” guesses one person. “They want you to be out of the house as much as possible and then charge $500 in cleaning fees.”

But it could be worse—and actually, it is, thanks to another rental house that got roasted in the subreddit. In another post, a photo shows what might be the winner of the highest and worst-placed TVs in the history of rental homes.

At first, you see, from the living room, a wide and rectangular archway with two steps leads to another room. To the right, there’s a fireplace; to the left, there’s a credenza occupying a small nook. Art on the walls fills up the remaining space of the A-shaped wooden roof. So far, so good.

But where’s the TV? Right above the archway and right below the tip of the roof. Who that TV is serving remains unclear, or as one comment eloquently puts it, “What the fuck.”

It gets even worse, though—or so, declares another post in the subreddit. With almost 9,000 upvotes (or likes, in Reddit lingo) supporting the claim, the post’s caption reads, “Subreddit closed. We found the winner boys.”

At first glance, one might think the TV isn’t even there, but if you look closely, you’ll soon discover the horror. On the right-hand side, the ceiling protrudes from what looks like a lofted area, and lo and behold, the TV is mounted exactly there, ultimately facing the floor and parallel to it, too. At the very least, as one user notes, “glare should be minimal.”
