Kmart finds: The $5 Kmart storage hack that has completely transformed my cluttered wardrobe

I must admit, that for years I always dreamt of having a walk-in wardrobe to rival that of Carrie Bradshaw.
Turns out, even though she thought she had a tiny apartment, she’s got more space than me with my tiny closet. If I keep going the way I’m going – I might just have to store some clothes in my kitchen like Carrie – but unlike her, I like to cook!
I’m lucky enough to have a built in wardrobe; but disclaimer, it’s small, two-doors, and has limited hanging and shoe space. The mirror doors are also rather annoying to keep clean.

So, with that, a spring clean out and declutter was needed just to make some room – and make things a bit tidier for me at home.
With such limited space and an abundance of shoes and clothes I’ve wasted money on over the years, I needed something to help organise my space and something that wouldn’t break the bank.
Decluttering tips and hacks to make it quick and easy
So straight away, I headed to my local Kmart before I started my wardrobe de-clutter.
I found a nifty Linen Look Underbed Shoe Organiser which retails for $10 and has been a lifesaver for me, and I think I found the holy grail of wardrobes – a black 5-Tier Pant Hanger which costs just $5. I repeat, $5! Perfect amid the cost of living crisis.
Now, I must say, I decluttered my wardrobe first by going through my clothes and shoes, chucking out anything I haven’t worn in a while or that have passed their heyday.
Within about 20 minutes, I had three bags full of clothes (in good condition) ready to be donated to charity. There’s more I have to get through as well!
Of course, I also sometimes put aside things my friends or relatives might like – if it’s in great condition or to their taste – and I also sometimes set aside a pile that I could possibly sell on eBay if I find the time.
I do feel bad at times about the amount of clothes worldwide that head to landfill – so I try to give my items to good homes to give them new life.
Now, the shoe organiser was great. Unfortunately, I can’t put it under my bed as my bed has draws underneath – filled with books, bed linen and old DVDs – so that rules that out for space.

I have just two small shoe racks built into my wardrobe, and of course the space on the floor to fill. But with some pairs of long leather boots – this space fills up quick.
The organiser helped rid me of some of the shoe boxes that took up space in that section and many of the boxes I simply couldn’t fit in that area due to my long coats reaching the shoe zone.
And handily enough, the organiser slid right into one shoe slot and I have just enough room to shut the wardrobe off. Note; it doesn’t fit heeled boots, so you have to make room for them somewhere else!

Yes, I’ll have to pull it out if I want to wear a certain pair of shoes, but it’s really helped with the limited space problem I have! Also, for moving purposes, you can just pull it out and your shoes are packed and ready to go a win!
However, I can’t wait to go back to Kmart and grab some more of the $5 tiered hangers which can hold a bunch of pants – and make my wardrobe look more streamlined.

The hanger is sturdy and can hold a bit of weight – so it also helps with the problem of plastic hangers snapping out of nowhere.
Now, I have four pairs of trousers one on hanger – and there’s still room for one more.
I’ll also grab some wooden hangers to further streamline by wardrobe. So yes, it is a work-in-progress, but if you’re like me and need to save space on a budget – definitely grab yourself this hanger – or a few of them!
