The cold is coming in, and the holiday lights are starting to glimmer all around, and what better way to take it all in than with a favorite winter pastime: outdoor ice skating!

Fortunately, there are several superb ice skating rinks around the Washington, D.C. area! So, before you plan out your entire schedule this holiday season, take a look at these rinks around the District:

Just beyond the National Gallery, among the art of its Sculpture Garden, and near the National Mall, you can glide across the ice of its seasonal skating rink and take it all in!

From November 24th through March 1st, 2026, the skating rink will be open (weather permitting) every day, and include:

• Skat rentals.
• Skating lessons.
• Fees cover two back-to-back, 45-minute skating sessions (15-minute break in between the sessions to maintain the ice surface).

Price: Admission for adults is $15, Children (12 & under) are $12, and skate rentals are $7.

Where: 7th St. and Constitution Ave. NW

One of the largest outdoor ice skating rinks in D.C., this Georgetown rink is open from November 25th until March 1st, 2026.

Here, you can enjoy the views of the Georgetown Waterfront, rent ice skates, sign up for skating lessons, and join in on the open skating (in 90-minute increments).

Price: Admission for adults is $11, Children (12 & under) are $9, and skate rentals are $7.

Where: 3050 K St. NW

While an official opening date for this season has not yet been announced, the Canal Park Ice Rink runs from (weather permitting) late November through early March.

Located near the Navy Yard-Ballpark Metro, Canal Park Ice Rink offers a full service of skate rentals, skate lessons, and family-friendly public skating!

Included with admission is a 90-minute skate session that is broken into two 45-minute segments to allow the ice to be resurfaced.“

Price: Admission is $13, and skate rentals are $7.

Where: 200 M St. SE

Just a short drive away in Arlington, Westpost Outdoor Ice Skating at National Landing (formerly known as Pentagon Row Outdoor Ice Skating) has the largest outdoor rink in Northern Virginia. The facility offers a variety of resources for anyone looking to learn how to skate (youth, adult, and private classes!) and the opportunity to hit the nearby shops when you’re done. Win-win! Plus, you can skate for 2 hours with your admission!

Price: Admission for adults is $13, Children (12 & under) are $12, and skate rentals are $6 (Registering and paying online offers a discounted price).

Where: 1201 S. Joyce St., Arlington, Va.

Opening for the winter season from November 26th to February 2026, the Wharf Ice Rink lets you hit the ice while taking in the beautiful waterfront sights of the Washington Channel.

When you’re done, you can warm up with some hot cider and s’mores from the Camp Wharf airstream as you sit beside a fire pit!

Prices: Admission for adults is $20, children under 12 years old are $15, and skate rentals are $5.

6. Ice & Lights – Winter Village at Cameron Run

Located in Alexandria, VA, this DMV area outdoor ice rink features outdoor skating for all ages, stunning light displays, tasty seasonal treats like hot chocolate to be enjoyed by the fire, and, of course, plenty of opportunities to take some fun photos with your friends or family.

The seasonal event opens on November 28th and extends to February 2026.

Prices: To enter the Winter Village only, tickets are $10.30, but to also have access to the ice skating rink, tickets are $22.80 per person. (All people over the age of two must have a ticket)

Where: 4001 Eisenhower Avenue, Alexandria, VA

Located in Rockville, MD, just a short drive outside the District, is a fantastic seasonal outdoor ice rink perfect for some family fun.

Already open for the season, the rink will stay active for daily use through the New Year until around March 2026.

While no official opening date has been shared online just yet, the Silver Spring Outdoor Ice Rink is expected to open in the coming days, leading into the holiday season.

Additionally, prices for this season have not yet been confirmed to be the same or different from what they have been in the past, but this outdoor ice rink remains one of the best outdoor seasonal activities in the area!
